Search is built with the site. It does not work in dev.

Legal

This site stores nothing about you and sends nothing to anyone else. It counts its readers without keeping a single address.

Publisher

This site is published by Florian Mousseau, an individual, as documentation for the open-source library truecopy. It is not a commercial service and sells nothing. To reach the publisher, open an issue on the issue tracker.

Hosting

The site is a set of static files hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). Every page is a file built in advance. The only code that runs on truecopy.dev is the visitor count described under Personal data, and it never changes what the page says.

Personal data

This site sets no cookie, gives you no identifier, loads no external font, embeds no third-party script and has no contact form.

No script here measures your visit. Nothing is loaded from another domain, nothing is written to your device, and there is nothing to consent to. Open your network tab and check what the page itself loads.

Two counts happen on the server instead, and neither needs your browser to cooperate. The first is the host's: Cloudflare records the requests it answers, and the country they come from, as it does for every site it serves. It writes technical logs (IP address, request, user agent) as any host does, as a processor, for security and to serve the file. The publisher reads the totals the host produces from them, never the logs.

The second is this site's own, and it is the one worth reading. For each page it serves, the site counts its unique readers. It hashes your IP address and your user agent together with a secret that changes every day, keeps 128 bits of the result, and stores that fingerprint alongside the hostname, the date and the country.Your address is never stored and never leaves that calculation, and two days cannot be linked to each other, because the secret that made the first one is gone. It answers one question, how many people read this site. The same rule applies on every site this publisher runs, so the numbers can be compared. Its legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6.1.f GDPR), because it measures an audience without identifying anyone. That is why there is nothing here to consent to and nothing to opt out of. Nothing else is recorded, and nothing is passed on.

The demo

The demo runs the library in your own browser. The file you drop is read in your tab and is never uploaded, because there is no endpoint to upload it to. Open your network tab and check.

Nothing is stored either. Reload the page and the file is gone.

Licences

  • truecopy is released under the MIT licence. Do what you like with it, and keep the notice.
  • This site's text and code are MIT licensed too, in the same spirit.
  • IBM Plex Sans is licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, © IBM Corp. It is served from this domain rather than a font CDN, which is why the site asks nothing of anyone else.

Warranty

There is none, as the MIT licence says in capitals. This library helps a reading say when it cannot be trusted. It does not make a reading correct, and nothing on this site is advice about the documents you feed it. Where the reading stops is written down rather than glossed over.

Accessibility

Every text and background pair on this site is measured at 4.5:1 or better, on both themes and on all three surfaces, by a check that runs in the build. If something here is unusable for you, an issue on the tracker is the fastest way to have it fixed.
